What is perimenopause?

In reality, diagnosing perimenopause often involves more than one laboratory result.
Healthcare professionals consider symptoms, menstrual history, age and, where appropriate, broader clinical assessment.
Other health conditions—including thyroid disorders, often assessed through markers such as TSH, nutritional deficiencies or other medical concerns—may also contribute to similar symptoms.
This is why assessment should always be individualised rather than relying on one number alone.
